Background of the study
Learning Management Systems (LMS) are software applications that provide a platform for educators to manage and deliver educational content. Local LMS solutions are hosted on the school’s internal infrastructure, while cloud-based LMS platforms are hosted on external servers, offering greater scalability and accessibility (Goh et al., 2023). Cloud-based systems are particularly advantageous for schools with limited resources, as they do not require heavy investments in hardware and maintenance.

In secondary schools in Bauchi Local Government Area, there has been a growing interest in adopting LMS for facilitating online learning and improving educational outcomes. This study will compare the use of local versus cloud-based LMS platforms in secondary schools in Bauchi, focusing on factors such as accessibility, user experience, cost, and impact on teaching and learning.

Statement of the problem
While cloud-based LMS solutions have become popular in educational settings due to their flexibility and ease of access, many secondary schools in Bauchi still rely on local LMS platforms. The comparison of these two types of systems in terms of their effectiveness in supporting teaching and learning remains underexplored. This study aims to provide a comprehensive comparison of both types of LMS in secondary schools in Bauchi Local Government Area.

Objectives of the study

  1. To compare the effectiveness of local and cloud-based Learning Management Systems in secondary schools in Bauchi.

  2. To assess the impact of local and cloud-based LMS on student learning outcomes and teacher effectiveness in Bauchi secondary schools.

  3. To identify the challenges and benefits of implementing local versus cloud-based LMS in secondary schools in Bauchi.

Research questions

  1. How do local and cloud-based Learning Management Systems compare in terms of effectiveness in supporting teaching and learning in secondary schools in Bauchi?

  2. What impact do local and cloud-based LMS have on student learning outcomes and teacher effectiveness in Bauchi secondary schools?

  3. What are the challenges and benefits associated with the implementation of local and cloud-based LMS in Bauchi secondary schools?

Significance of the study
This study will provide useful insights for educational stakeholders on the benefits and challenges of local and cloud-based LMS platforms. It will inform decisions regarding the adoption of LMS in schools, helping administrators choose the most suitable platform for their needs.

Scope and limitations of the study
The study focuses on secondary schools in Bauchi Local Government Area, Bauchi State, and compares local and cloud-based LMS. It does not cover other forms of educational technology or other regions.
